Welcome to the first Salsa Idol singing competition in Utah, to be held at Salsa Chocolate Nightclub, on August 19, 2010. You can also find the event posted on FaceBook - Salsa Idol Competition.
Competitors
- Competitors must pre-audition in private with Salsa Chocolate on the following dates: July 29, August 5, August 12. Just let us know at the club that your interestested and we will go from there.
- Competitors must register on the SalsaChocolate.com website for the specific event... You can do so by clicking on the 'register' down below and follow the instructions.
- Competitors will be responsible for bringing and coordinating their song with us to ensure everything is working properly.
- Sound check will be available August 19, by 4pm.
- Competitors MUST be at Salsa Chocolate Nightclub by 10pm or competitor may be disqualified.
- The winner will be announced in the night, so please stay in costume.
- Contestants will be expected to sing for a duration of no more than 3 minutes of a song
- Contestand will specify when the 3 minutes begins within a song. The DJ will fade in the music prior to the specified starting point.
- A conga and timbal musician will accompany every singer.
Scoring
- The competition will be judicated by 3 judges.
- Judges: Aimee Robinson, Mariela Alvarez, TBD
- Judges will use a specific 10 points criteria that will breakdown as follows:
3 points - Vocal technique of basic notes, clear tonal range, and difficulty of song
3 points - Deliberate focus, eyes-up, and audience connection
2 points - Costume and overall presentation
2 points - Creativity in movement, gestures and dance

10 points total per judge
- All 3 Judges will give their constructive opinions at the end of each contestant’s performance, however, only 2 out of the 3 Judges will reveal their scores. The third score will be revealed at the conclusion of all performances, revealing our winner.
It is our goal that with this event, that we help bring much-needed attention and admiration to our local musical salsa-culture artists. I hope that we can inspire others to host events like ths. It is also our hope that we can host events like these for the musicians as well.

1st Place - Medal, $$$, Free Salsa Chocolate Admissions, Free Mixed Drink.
2nd Place - Medal, $$$, Free Salsa Chocolate Admissions, Free Mixed Drink.
3rd Place - Medal, $$$, Free Salsa Chocolate Admissions, Free Mixed Drink.
